The preliminaries include a dedicatory poem by Richard Le Gallienne, and an essay on 'Carlyle as a talker' by Walter Lewin. There is a wide blank stub preceding the table of contents, but this appears to relate to the make-up of the advertisement pages. Nothing appears to be missing.
