Orig. dull gold cloth bevelled boards, with the date 1894 at foot of spine, page edges untrimmed. Inscribed by Esmé Percy 'for Clara' with thanks for a gift from her, dated 1915. Inner front hinge cracked but binding still tight. Prelim. leaves before title-page have a water stain at upper edge about 4 cm deep, the main text not affected. The work was in fact edited by W. Carew Hazlitt and published by the Bodley Head. Apart from the Liber Amoris itself it includes eleven letters from Hazlitt to P.G. Patmore, a letter from Sarah Walker to Hazlitt, the Diary of Mrs Hazlitt in Scotland (1822) and five letters from Mrs Hazlitt to her son and sister-in-law.
