WELCKER (Adair): Flavia. Copyright 1885 by the Author. , Berkeley, California: Adair Welcker, [1887?];pp.118. Orig. blue cloth w. gilt title on fr. cover. Badly damp-mottled but otherwise sound. A historical verse play set in ancient Rome. A strange copy with three lengthy impassioned notes in ink by the author, basically on the theme of the unjust refusal of American publishers to publish his work and of theatre managers to put on performances! There is also a Publisher's Announcement in fact from the author, as he published his own work. "The author will make and sell autograph manuscript copies for one thousand dollars a copy. People not caring to pay that sum can either make manuscript copies themselves, or hire other people to make them, and have their copies bound to suit their tastes at any bookbinder's." Not in NUC. (Book ref. 3883) £25.00 The payment methods accepted by the seller, Nineteenth Century Books , are shown in the right-hand column. |
