Spine ruled and lettered in gilt. Roald Amundsen, the discover of the South Pole and the only man to have reached both poles, was born in 1872 in Borge, Norway. Amundsen's second and finally successful flight (the first, nine months earlier, missed by 134 miles) across the North Pole from Spitsbergen to Alaska accompanied by the American explorer Lincoln Ellsworth with his account of the flight in the last chapter. The bulk of the text was written by Amundsen but the last chapter is Ellsworth's account. Covers slightly stained and bumped, some minor browning, foxing. Contents clean. Very Good.
