In addition 11 small lithographic prints on India-paper tipped-in in the text. Sir Arthur de Capell Brooke, 2nd Baronet (born in Northamptonshire 22 June 1791 – 6 December 1858) was a British baronet and travel writer, Fellow of the Royal Society (1823) and co-establisher of the Raleigh Club (1827). A classic travel narrative illustrated with beautiful lithographic plates depicting winter scenes and the general life in the north including how to travel with reindeers. The author is immersed in the mythology of the polar winter and its inhabitants, humans as well as animals. The plates captures the feel of the landscape and its people in a quite facinating way. Front board detached, pencil annotations in margins, Ex Library, Library bookplate on verso front board, library binding and covers in very poor condition. Discrete library stamp on plates, pages age toned, some foxing, odd stain but overall very clean condition. Good. (Book ref. 1994)  £650.00
