Lecointe was scientific director of the Royal Belgian Observatory. Includes an appendix that does not appear in 2nd edition which includes the members of the Belgica Commission 2pp; and a very useful bibliographical reference "Liste des Rapports Scientifiques". Vol 1-X with authors & titles of each contribution.The "Belgica" expedition (1897-1899) explored the waters of the Antarctic and was the first one to winter in Antarctica "Pays des manchots" = "Land of the penguins".No English edition was published.
