Environmentalists concerned that the distemper-like virus which had affected the seal population in the North Sea may be linked to dogs, pressed for this change. (Subsequently the Antarctic dogs were proven to be distemper free). Before their removal in 1994, the last two huskie teams went on a final field trip led by John Sweeny and John Killingbeck.
