x, 228pp, 8pp half tone photo ills., maps at endpapers, purple cloth lettered in gilt at spine, pictorial dustwrapper, the edited diary of Lt. Colonel Arthur C. Borton (retired) who kept a diary of family news and experiences throughout WW1, covering events at the family seat at Cheveney in Hunton, near Maidstone in Kent, as well as the exploits of his two sons, Bosky (Arthur, the eldest) and Biffy (Amyas), in the various theatres of the war. Bosky joined the Royal Flying Corps as an observer, crashed and broke his neck in March 1915 and was invalided out. He then volunteered for the Royal Naval Air Service, was accepted and served with their armoured cars at Gallipoli winning the DSO and VC. Biffy started the war as a Lieutenant in the Black Watch serving with the Royal Flying Corps, was seriously wounded flying on the Western Front, also winning the DSO. After recovery and command of a training squadron he served again on the Western Front, was rapidly promoted and later commanded the Palestine Brigade, lightly rubbed and bumped at extrems., edges a little tanned, partial tanning to free endpapers, dustwrapper: lightly rubbed at tips, chip to head of lower hinge repaired to reverse, very good in a very good dustwrapper, (Book ref. 40933)  £20.00
