Lloyd, William, Hay Fever, Hay Asthma

Lloyd, William: Hay-Fever, Hay-Asthma. , Chicago: Kenner, & London: Glaisher, 1907. FIRST EDITION.

8.5" x 6". 95 pages plus 4 advertisement pages at end from Glaisher, medical publishers of London. A very good copy in original dark blue ribbed cloth, corners very slightly bumped. Protected in a modern handmade archival cloth slipcase, leather label titled in gilt. The earliest recorded case of hay-fever dates back to the 16th century. From that time occasional references were made by various writers upon this subject. However, it was not until the 19th century - particularly from the 1870s onwards - that the problem was systematically investigated and proved to be caused by pollen of grasses and plants. This work, although outlining correctly the cause, falls some way short of providing successful cure, proposing, inter-alia, the application by spraying of a 5 percent solution of cocaine, medicated cigarettes, and electro-cauterization. (Price includes postage UK) (Book ref. as-1813)  £110.00
