1st Edition. Good.. 11.25" x 9" Illustrated with 8 Colour plates, all tissue guarded, 30 B/W plates and numerous B/W drawings in text. The 13 Chapter titles are - Eastern Dogs In Early Times; Dog-Lore And Superstition; Dog-Breeding; Sporting And Guard Dogs; The Chinese Lion; Symbolism Of The Buddist And Lamaist Lion; Historical References To Dogs Of Pekingese Type; Evolution Of The Pekingese Type; Points Of The Chinese Pekingese Type; The Chinese Pug; The "Japanese" Dogs; The Chinese Lion Dog; and Toy Dogs In Chinese Art. The front cover and spine show the author's name as V W F Collier but the title page states the name is W F Collins. The name is listed as Collier in "A Bibliography Of The Dog" by E Gwynne Jones. Externally, the corners and base of spine are bumped, there are two fairly insignificant marks on cover and the front cover has a few small wrinkles. Internally, some light foxing on front endpapers and edges of a few pages o/w text and all illustrations unmarked. Previous owner's inscription inside front cover. 207 pages. Very heavy book.
