Allingham, Helen (Illustrator) and Dick, Stewart (text) The Cottage Homes of England [signed copy] , London: Edward Arnold, 1909.Hardback. Very Good-. Signed by Allingham on half-title page: "Mr & Mrs Henry Low / with kind regards / from / Helen Allingham / May 1910". Illustrated pale green boards (no d/jkt); gilt illustration (picture of cottage) and titles on front a trifle dull, but still sharp and legible; spine a little darkened; gilt titling a trifle faded, but legible none the less. Boards are slightly worn, and slightly scuffed, but retain their firmness; the lower corners are slightly bumped; upper corners sharp. Smalkl vertical split at head of spine, but boards, backstrip and binding intact. Gilt top edge a little dusty; lightly spotted throughout. Acknowledgents slip by Stewart Dick tipped in on preface. Each colour plate is protected by tissue, which has discoloured, and offset very slightly onto the white border of each accompanying plate, though not the illustration itself, as far as we can tell. The contents pp, and some others, have pencil notes. The illustrations are interesting historical documents in their own right, as many of them are places long since urbanized. Of particular interest is the painting of Wyldes Farm, North End, which became part of the Hampstead Garden Suburb in 1907, and occupied by Raymond Unwin, co-planner of the suburb, from that time until his death in 1940. ; 4to (7 1/2" x 9 1/2"); 287 + pblr's cat. pages; Signed by Illustrator (Book ref. 17545) £100.00 The payment methods accepted by the seller, Walden Books , are shown in the right-hand column. |
