[Samuel Orchart Beeton, Aglen A. Dowty, and Evelyn Douglas Jerrold]. Jon Duan: a twofold journey with manifold purposes. By the authors of 'The coming K___' and 'The siliad'. , 1st ed. London: Weldon & Co., 1874.[2], vi, 94p, illus. A satire on Byron's Don Juan. Illustrations by Melton Prior and Charles H. Ross. There is a sequence of advertisements at the end of the title numbered xi-xxxii, which appear unconnected but are headed 'Jon Duan advertisements'. They comprise full-page plates by Gustave Dore for Charles Perrault's fairy tales, including Tom Thumb, Blue Beard etc. with advertisements to the verso. I suspect they are from the Ward, Lock and Tyler 1865 edition of 'The fairy realm: a collection of the favourite old tales'. Bound without the covers in contemporary half-calf over marbled boards with six other similar titles from the 1870s – full details on request.
