Hardcover in bright, unclipped dustjacket with light handling wear, rubbing/creasing to edges, and a couple of minor nicks. Blue boards with edgewear, lightly bumped corners and spine. 144 pp with colour and b/w photos. The world-famous Navajo artist from the Arizona reservation, who has created an enduring image of the Indian woman. Chuck Henningsen's brilliant photographs focus especially on the land which finds uncanny echoes in Gorman's art. He also shows the serious Gorman at work, and the extravagent Gorman at play, as well as Gorman with his people. Good Plus. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall Landscape book measuring approx. 11" x 13.75". 157 photographic plates, 3 of which are double-page; many, if not most, are of young women in varying stages of undress. Beautiful, French, Art Noveau style, decoration to upper board. Green cloth spine. Some wear and soiling with boards exposed at corners; fading to fore-edge of upper board, and to edges of lower. Internally good without inscriptions or other markings. Light foxing to prelims and finger marking to eps. Creasing to half-title with small tape repair to one edge. A few pages loosening but all secure. Sons of the photographer Jean César Neurdein, the Neurdein brothers opened a photographic studio in Paris in 1863, with each taking on different responsibilities in the business. Étienne managed the studio and photographed portraits, while Louis-Antonin travelled widely photographing monuments, buildings and landscapes. Maison Neurdein thus produced not only portraits of famous people of the era but also views of France, Belgium, Algeria and Canada. (Book ref. 002407)
