John Reeve, (1608-1658) was an English plebeian prophet who believed the voice of God had instructed him to found a Third Commission in preparation for the last days of earth. This commission was third in succession to the Mosaic Law and the gospel of Christ Jesus. He and his followers came to be known as Muggletonians, named after his cousin Lodowicke Muggleton. The pair saw themselves as the last prophets and the Two Witnesses foretold in the Book of Revelation chapter 11 verse 3. Lodowick Muggleton, (1609-1698) was an English plebeian religious thinker, who gave his name to Muggletonianism. He spent his working life as a journeyman tailor in the City of London and was imprisoned twice for his beliefs. He held opinions hostile to all forms of philosophical reason. He encouraged quietism and free-thought amongst his followers whose beliefs were predestinarian in a manner that was distinct from Calvinism. Near the close of his long life, Muggleton wrote his spiritual autobiography which was published posthumously. The Muggletonians kept going until the 19th century when the sect eventually died out. **Book now placed in an archival quality clear protective jacket.** [ Rosley Books for Antiquarian books, Theology and Church History. ] (Book ref. 0015244 ) £ 299.00 The payment methods accepted by the seller, Rosley Books , are shown in the right-hand column. |
