Title continues: "..on Animals, Fruit, Flowers, Still Life, Portrait, Miniature, Landscape, Perspective, Architecture, and Sculpture, calculated to afford those who are unacquainted with the art, the means of acquiring a competent knowledge Without The Aid of a Master; being the only work of the kind in which the Principles of Effect are explained in a clear, methodical, and, at the same time, familiar style." Hardback, 135mm x 216mm tall (5.5" x 8.5" approx.). Pp xvi, 134, with 141 figs. in the text, 58 of which are original watercolour colour samples, plus 21 plates [of 22], 16 of which are hand-coloured, plus, bound in at the rear, Publisher's adverts comprising Pp 8,4 & (ii), having between them a total of 12 engraved illustrations. Small top corner of prelims a little frayed; extensive, but light, spotting to the first thirty or so pages, and marginal wear to several of the advert leaves. Overall good, in a recent binding, with new endpapers, of quarter dark-brown morocco with 5 raised bands, gilt rulings and leather spine label with gilt title/brown cloth-covered boards. The missing plate [there are no signs of it ever having been present] is that which should face page 88, being a coloured version of the plain "Figure on tinted Paper" present opposite page 83.
