H. Bs in four volumes. Fine Leather Bindings. Bound in full calf leather, claret, with double gilt lines on boards and floral dentelles. Gilt design on centre board of each book. Spine hand-tooled gilt in six compartments, with five raised bands. Spine titles in second and third compartment on dark green and tan leather. Beautiful marbling of endpapers, and edgepapers. Unfortunately The Royal Masonic school pasted their "prize book-plate" on the front endpaper in 1904! Edges of boards and lower and upper spine also has hand-tooled design in gilt. Each book is illustrated with photogravure. Vol. 1: "The War in the Peninsula" 416 p. p. photogravure + maps. Vol. 2: The Struggle for the Sea, with a frontis engraved portrait of Nelson, in the dress he wore when he received his Mortal Wound, October 21st. 1805. 323 p. p. Vol. 3 : Waterloo and St. Helena, frontis portrait of Blucher 1816 reproduction from a lithograph. Facimile letter from the Duke of Wellington to Lord Beresford. 4: From the Low Countries to Egypt. Frontis portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte, when Lieut. - Colonel of the First Battalion of Corsica. Size of each book 17.75 x 11.5 cms. A Fine set, bound with excellent craft. A set to treasure.
