First edition illustrated by Margaret Tarrant H. B. Greyish -green cloth with pictorial oval onlay of Alice observing the White Rabbit running down a field. 332 p. p. 23.5 x 18 cms. Title on both board and spine in black lettering. Design of longitudinal lines on spine also in black. Magnificent illustrations by Tarrant, truly extraordinary! Pictorial endpapers of numerous animals curiously observing a nasty looking Cheshire cat who is watching them from a great height. Animals all dressed in most colourful fashionable clothes. The Gryphon is most protective of Alice and the Dodo is exceedingly polite and adorable. To see such fashionable animals in the courthouse is a joyful experience and it is not often the judiciary gets advice from a caterpillar!.
