First Edition. Very Good +/Very Good. Signed by Author FIRST EDITION Bound in the publishers red cloth boards with gilt title lettering to spine. This is the first edition issued on first publication by the Book Society in association with William Collins in June 1949. It has been signed by Nigel Balchin to the half title page with no further inscriptions and is very rare thus. Signed books by Nigel Balchin are extremely scarce more so since his recent revival in popularity. Often forgotten and overlooked since his death Nigel Balchin has been compared to the likes of Graham Greene for his suspense filled novels surrounding the cloak and dagger atmosphere of the World War two era. This is a nail biting scientific thriller. All pages are present and correct and tightly bound. Book sits solid and square. Top edge dyed red as published. A very good + copy inside and out. Housed in the yellow and white dustwrapper with publishers printed price intact on front inside flap. Light wear and overal signs of handling otherwise a presentable example of the dustwrapper in very good condition. Protected in a removable archival booksleeve to preserve its condition. Photographs of the book and the dustwrapper are available on request. A diificult book to find in the first edition format with the dustwrapper in this condition.
