The Rare Book Shelf

Ouspensky, P. D. Strange Life of Ivan Osokin , London: Faber and Faber, 1948.

First Edition. Very Good/Very Good. FIRST EDITION Bound in the publishers fine weave blue cloth with gilt title lettering to spine. This is the first trade edition after the limited edition of 356 copies published in October 1947. All pages are present and correct. This copy has been signed by the author Katharine Morris in ink on the front free endpaper. Light signs of handling otherwise a Very Good copy. Housed in the striking yellow and red dustwrapper with bold black title lettering to front panel. Publishers printed price intact on front inside flap. Light overall signs of handling and a small chip to the heel of the spine otherwise a Very Good example of the scarce dustwrapper. Now protected in a removable archival booksleeve to preserve its condition. Ouspensky's one and only novel with a strong theme of eternal recurrence. Many of the ideas and thoughts of the author and indeed Gurdjieff show strongly through in this excellent tale of the Russian upper classes. A very clever and riveting novel which is an important addition to the serious collector and student of the Fourth Way and the Gurdjieff/Ouspensky school of thought. Very scarce especially in the surviving dustwrapper. (Book ref. 000925 )  £ 49.50
