The Rare Book Shelf

Hesse, Hermann Rosshalde , New York, U.S.A.: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1970.

First Edition. Fine/Fine. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall FIRST EDITION Bound in the publishers lilac cloth hard covers with silver title lettering to spine and authors initials blind stamped in silver to front. This is the 'FIRST PRINTING' and this is stated as such in the copyright notes on the verso of the title page. All pages are present and correct with no inscriptions and are tightly bound. Book sits solid and square with all corners sharp. A fine copy. Housed in the distinctive and rather abstract looking dustwrapper with publishers printed price intact on front inside flap. The very lightest signs of handling otherwise a fine example of the Milton Glaser designed dustwrapper. Protected in a removable archival booksleeve to preserve its condition. This is the first English language translation by Ralph Manheim. The UK first edition appeared a year later published by Jonathan Cape. A very presentable copy indeed and yet another highly accomplished novel by the enigma that is Hermann Hesse. (Book ref. 000965 )  £ 69.50
