The Rare Book Shelf

Hargrave, John (White Fox) At Suvla Bay - Being the Notes and Sketches of Scenes, Characters and Adventures of the Dardanelles Campaign , London, United Kingdom: Constable and Company Ltd, 1916.

First Edition. Near Very Good. 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall FIRST EDITION Bound in the publishers original brown illustrated cloth, this is the first printing of a fascinating account of the horrors of the Gallipoli campaign by an ambulance officer who was present at the time. The frontispiece has come loose, but apart from this all pages are present and correct with no inscriptions. The sturdy covers are lightly marked here and there but this is a presentable copy nontheless. An inexplicably rare World War II account which, incredibly, was published while the war was still in progress. 182pp. There is a list of full-page illustrations, maps and charts to the front of book. Excellent plates and intext illustrations throughout. A fascinating, well crafted book. Very scarce. (Book ref. 001113 )  £ 74.00
