Half red morocco gilt over red cloth sides. Large square 8vo, c.pp210 t..e.g., some very light age-darkening of blank margin of text, neat 1922 signature on a blank prelim. Binding just lightly scuffed at extremities, cloth sides just faintly faded, overall an excellent bright and attractive copy. George Scharf was the first Director of the National Portrait Gallery. This is one of his best-known series of illustrations - very attractively wood-engraved in the antique style - and was first published in 1847. (Book ref. 9142)  £55.00
