Half-Leather. Near Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall Book Complete Set of the Waverley Novels in 25 Volumes. All Title Pages Dated 1871. In contemporary Light Brown Half-Leather Bindings with 5 shallow Raised Bands to spines. Red and Black Title and Vol. Labels with Gilt Lettering in 2nd and third compartments, Gilt Decoration fills the other compartments and bands. Marbled Paper-covered Boards with Leather Corners. Endpapers and all Page Edges Marbled. 7 1/2" Tall. Vol I has a Frontispiece Portrait of Sir Walter sitting with his Dog, with Facsimilie Signature beneath. Title Page illustrated with "Waverley Honour". Each volume has an Illustrated Frontispiece, (most are protected by a tissue guard) and Illustrated Title Page. Some Vols have other illustrations. Titles are: No I, Waverley; II, Guy Mannering; III, Antiquary; IV, Rob Roy; V, Old Mortality; VI, Montrose and Black Dwarf; VII, Heart of Mid-Lothisn; VIII, Bride of Lammermoor; IX, Ivanhoe; X Monastery; XI, Abbot; XII, Kenilworth; XIII, Pirate; XIV, Nigel; XV, Peveril; XVI, Quentin Durward; XVII, St Ronan's Well; XVIII, Redgauntlet; XIX, Betrothed; XX, Talisman; XX!, Woodstock; XXII, Fair Maid of Perth; XXIII, Anne of Geierstein; XXIV, Count Robert of Paris; XXVI, Surgeon's Daughter & Castle Dangerous. Some wear to Bindings (see photos). Front Board of Vol I detached but present. Vol X has a small piece of leather missing at bottom of spine, Vols XI, XIII & XV have small bits of leather missing near bottoms of spines, Vol XVIII has the leather backstrip beneath the title labels missing, Vol XX similar for the bottom quarter of spine,Vol XXI has little bits missing at spine ends and Vol XXIII a little bit missing from top of spine. Some Vols have a split to leather part way all all down side of spine. Some edge wear, scuffing and rubbing. Pages in very good, clean condition. No inscriptions. Text blocks firm.
