T. C. Lethbridge Gogmagog: The Buried Gods , Routledge, London, 1975Reprint. Binding: Hardcover (Original Cloth). Book Condition: Near Fine Condition. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. T. C. Lethbridge, who died in 1971, was an archaeologist, psychic researcher, dowser, explorer. He was for thirty years Director of Excavations for the Cambridge Antiquarian Society and for the University Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology. He was on three Arctic expeditions, several Hebridean exploratory expeditions, and two voyages to the Baltic in square-rigged sailing ships. Yet, as Professor Christopher Hawkes writes in a Times article: 'To divide his life ... would miss the unity in both his nature and his mind'. It is this unity that gives his investigations into the occult and the unexplained their unique mingling of specialist research, humour, and exciting originality and independence of thought. In this book T. C. Lethbridge writes about the excavation of a forgotten Neolithic chalk figure in the Cambridgeshire hills. He details the clues available and shows how they were followed up, and tells how the search ended in the apparent discovery of two other giant figures as well. The greater part of the book is devoted to a search into the meaning of these figures. Based on archaeological, historical and biblical information as well as folklore, his findings not only indicate the survival of an ancient religion but direct valuable light on the nature of the old gods themselves.
