A.H.Wheeler & Co "Price 8 Annas" Reynolds was an English novelist and Chartist leader ; Editor of the London Journal [1846] who started Reynold's Miscellany [1846] and Reynold's Weekly Newspaper (1850) Virtually forgotten now, his exposure of Victorian poverty and criminality predates Mayhew's better known accounts. In his lifetime he was more read than Dickens or Thackeray and in his obituary " The Bookseller " called him the most popular writer of our times" . Further details on request.
