A rare tin button badge depicting Sir W.C.Leng owner of the Sheffield Telegraph and Town Trustee 1852-1902. Produced by Marchant's Portrait Co., Kentish Town Road London. Its purpose is unknown with no example or record in the Sheffield Collection of the Local Studies Library. Leng had played a leading part in the Sheffield Outrages conducting a lengthy attack on the Trade Unions through his newspaper. A similar button by the same company for the WSPU [ Womens Social & Political Union] for suffrage campaigning, fetched £470 at auction earlier this year. An unusual item for the Sheffield collector with everything. (Book ref. 4194 )  £ 65.00
