Daniel Webb (c.1719–1798) published several works on aesthetics; this was preceded by his first work, An Inquiry into the Beauties of Painting (1760), and he made judicious use of the term "beauties," a criterion popular from about 1780 to 1830 when it seems to have fallen out of use.
