Castlereagh, Robert Stewart, Viscount. Speech of the Right Honourable Lord Viscount Castlereagh, in the Irish House of Commons, Wednesday, February 5, 1800, on offering to the House certain resolutions, proposing and recommending a complete and entire union between Great Britain and Ireland. , London: printed for J. Wright, 1800.

[4], 69, [3]p. Three pages of publisher ads at rear. Original saddle-stitched binding. Probably issued with paper cover but this is not present. Some dust soiling, some corners turned down. Occasional pencilled notes in an old hand. A publication of great significance in the history of Ireland. Castlereagh was the leading advocate of unifying Ireland with Great Britain and this speech was made after he had secured the outcome of the vote by bribery with honours and money as much as by the force of his arguments. The resolutions comprise the eight Articles which were the basis for the Act of Union accepted by the Irish Parliament later that year. A very good copy. (Book ref. wb11496 )  £ 200.00
