[A theatrical production of Robin Hood by Ben Johnson, born 1572, this was the authors final dramatic work, left uncompleted at the time of his death in 163. "An adaptation of the folk material concerning Robin Hood and his band of merry men which draws in addition on the pastoral traditions of Theocritus and Virgil, as well as an Renaissance pastoral found in the work of Spencer's Shepherd's Calendar and in his third book the Faerie Queen. The action of the play takes place in Sherwood Forest, and the translation of pastoral material from open meadow to English woods is reminiscent of Shakespeare's As You Like It. Jonson finished about half of the play and it contains some of his finest work".
