DUNCAN, Edward VIEW OF THE LONDON AND CROYDEN RAILWAY. From the Deep Cutting made through the hill at New Cross. Looking towards the Greenwich Railway.
105 Leadenhall Street, London 1838 Coloured Lithograph, Mounted, Gilt Framed. 11 x 19¼ inches. The Croyden Railway joining the Greenwich Railway at Corbett's Lane, about 1¾ miles from its terminus at London Bridge, extended in a southerly direction for 8¾ miles to its terminus near the West Croyden Station of the LBSC, making use of the bed of the old Croyden Canal. It was opened throughout on June 5th, 1839. The view shows the impact of the new railways on the natural environment: the railway track and deep verges divide the landscape and a steam train can be seen travelling towards London.
