Manchester. George Simms. 1842-3. An 18 section map mounted on linen, each section measuring 22x13 cms. Uncoloured. Board covers, front board loose but with paper title pasted on. The map covers an area from Padgate in the west to Hayfield in the east and from Rochdale in the north to Knutsford in the south. Scale 1 inch to the statute mile. Engraved in the Tower of London at the Ordnance Survey Office and published by Colonel Colby. The reverse side of the map is showing signs of handling but the engraved surface is nice and clean.
