Sampson Low Marston & Co., [1912] 4to., First Illustrated Edition, on laid paper, with a coloured frontispiece (original captioned tissue guard present), coloured illustrated title and 23 fine coloured plates (all original captioned tissue guards present), free endpapers mildly browned, half-title and a few preliminaries lightly spotted; original blue pictorial cloth, upper board elaborately blocked and lettered in gilt with small coloured illustrated (not repeated in text) mounted in oval frame, gilt back, gilt top, uncut, backstrip lightly sunned (but all gilt bright and entirely legible), joints with a little surface rubbing else a very good, bright, fresh copy. A PRESENTATION COPY FROM THE AUTHOR TO HIS AUNT JENNY SANSUM WITH HIS SIGNED HOLOGRAPH INSCRIPTION (DATED 1918) ON FRONT FREE ENDPAPER. THIS COPY WAS PASSED IN TURN TO GRANDDAUGHTER PHYLLIS OAKDEN. A SPLENDID FAMILY COPY OF FARNOL'S SECOND BOOK. IT IS VERY UNUSUAL TO FIND SUCH AN EARLY DATED PRESENTATION INSCRIPTION. The work was first published in 1910. (Book ref. 25520)
