Woodforde's account includes Oxford and the Somerset Curacies 1758-1776 and thereafter his residence in the Norfolk village of Weston Longeville. The set comprises Vol. I: 1758-1781; Vol. II: 1782-87; Vol. III: 1788-92; Vol. IV: 1793-1796; Vol. V: 1797-1802. Borough Guide No. 215. Lovely Edwardian guide to England's smallest city. The fragile Borough Guides are deceptively detailed and unusually well illustrated. Ward Lock, [1940] the Hausmalerei.Sm. 8vo., Eleventh Edition, with a folding coloured map as frontispiece, 55 plates (3 double-page) on 44 and two plans in the text, some light and inoffensive spotting; original printed wrappers, radial corners, a very good, firm copy. With front and rear endpaper trade advertisements, 8pp of advertisements at front and 40pp of advertisements at end. With the publisher's separately printed 'Control of Maps' slip tipped-in following title. 'The Publishers regret that owing to the Control of Maps Order and other exigencies of the situation, it is not at present possible to include the customary complete set of maps and plans in this Guide'. In the event, only the plan of Bath was omitted, the large map of Bath and District is present as frontispiece. Wartime issues are uncommon in this condition. (Book ref. 12791)
