SHEFFIELD John Drake Broomspring Lane 1875 Rare 16pp pamphlet not in the British Library or COPAC * describing the authors terrible experiences as a child working in the coal pits of Derbyshire [Summercotes - nr. Alfreton] and Nottinghamshire. His blinding and subsequent life as an itinerant fidler at the fairs, wakes,and public houses of Sheffield, Wakefield, Huddersfield and numerous other places in Yorkshire. " Plunging deeper and deeper into sin" His marriage to a blind Sheffield woman and eventual salvation through the Don Road Weslyan Chapel in the town.*NB The Sheffield publisher went bankrupt within months of its publication. A good copy in original printed wrappers. (Book ref. 4685)

Foreword by Professor Trevelyan. and well illustrated throughout.. Loosely inserted is the original CPRE prospectus from Endcliffe Vale House seeking subscribers to the campaign. (Book ref. 4287)

Sheffield March 1841.Followed by the Dedication to the First Edition [1821] to Jonadab Micklethwaite Esq.etc etc.but Unrecorded by COPAC A third edition dated 1857 was published by Thomas B Turton the steel manufacturer in tribute.The authors father was a razor & scissor maker on Carver Street and his brother Samuel Smith was Master Cutler in 1839.
