Good. 9780983674702 Well illustrated, small quarto, pp 224, pictorial laminated boards, corner slightly bumped. Bilingual text throughout - English/Portuguese. [This is the first volume of a series intended to encompass every Brazilian orchid species. In this volume, the authors describe all known species of 16 genera, most of which were once known as Oncidium and are closely related to that group - Palatiglossum, Alatiglossum,Baptistonia, Brasilidium, Campaccia. Carriella, Coppensia, Gomesa, Hardingia, Leucohule, Nitidocidium, Nohawilliamsia, Ornithophora, Psychopsiella, Psychopsis, Rodrigueziopsis, Trichopilia. It is the first comprehensive book about known Brazilian orchid species to be released since 1980. This book is intended to help the student of orchids who wants to expand his knowledge of the range of species in various genera and families, but will also aid those who are hobby growers in identifying their plants so they can more properly care for them and also in educating them about other species they may find interesting. This series will cover naturally occurring species of orchids found in Brasil. The authors intend this to be a multivolume set, each set containing closely related genera or branches of the orchid family. With each set, they will discuss every species that would be included in that branch that have been reported to be in Brazil. They intend to have a set of pictures of as many as possible of each species contained in each volume. The authors list synonyms they are aware of, but as the knowledge of the species in other countries is limited, they do not presume to have covered all synonymies. The authors will try to direct the hobby grower to other references that may aid them in cultural advice. Many of the difficulties one has with any list of Brazilian orchids is that there are many species that were poorly described, several where the country of origin is uncertain, and others whose distribution is based on reports where identification is questionable. The author's intent is to clean this list as much as possible.] (Book ref. 007125)

Royal Botanic Garden Kew, 2002. First American Edition.. Cloth. New/New. Well illustrated, large 8vo, pp x, 316, a very good copy in dustwrapper. [This account, the first for over 90 years since that of Pfitzer and Kraenzlin (1907), attempts to summarise all of the available information on the genus. The author re-assesses sectional limits, and provides keys to the sections, species and infraspecific taxa. Distribution maps are provided for each section. He also provides a comprehensive account of each species that includes a full description, distribution, habitat, altitudinal range, flowering time and taxonomic notes. Most of the species are illustrated by one or more colour photographs and a black-and-white line drawing of the lip, a critical feature in the genus, is provided for almost every species. Most orchid growers have at least one Coelogyne in their collection. This book will certainly whet readers’ appetites for more of these beautiful orchids. The author provides detailed information on how to grow coelogynes and on their hybridisation, based on his extensive experience cultivating them in his own collection. (Book ref. 002763)

. Paperback. New. 9838120189 Well illustrated, small 8vo, pp x,118, paperback, a very good copy. [Slipper orchids (Paphiopedilum species) are among Borneo’s most spectacular and instantly recognizable plants. The island has a dozen species, including the sensational Paphiopedilum rothschildianum and P. sanderianum, the petals spreading to 30 cm across in the former and up to a metre long in the latter. This book is a readable account that updates knowledge of the taxonomy, distribution, ecology and biology of these extraordinary plants, and includes superb photographs and paintings. Nearly all of the Bornean species are naturally rare in the wild, and sadly some are now threatened with extinction unless their habitats can be better protected.] (Book ref. 000119)
