London: Saunders and Otley, Conduit Street, 1839. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good. xi, [i], 332, [4 pages of adverts]; vii, [i], 328 pages. With 8 plates. Some illustrations in the text. Bound in the original cloth, with gilt harps to the front and rear boards. The cloth is lightly worn and the spines browned. Page edges are untrimmed and consequently a little dusty and soiled. Some spotting throughout. The plates are browned and spotted, mainly to the margins and this has transferred to adjoining pages. Small tear to the fore edge of pages 199/200 in vol 1, but well clear of the text. Small bookseller's ticket ot he front pastedown of vol 1 - Sold by H.I. McClary, No 32 St James's Street. 1949 ink ownership inscriptions to the front free end papers of both vols. Page vii in vol 2 is numbered vi. This is the first edition published - there was a second edition printed in the same year. (Book ref. 007043)
Antuerpiae - Antwerp: Sumptibus Andreae Frisi - Andreas Frisius, 1668. Hard Cover. Good. [xxiv], 576, [48] pages, includes an engraved title page and 44 full page illustrations which are included in the pagination. Bound in old full vellum, ink lettered to the spine, over an older version of the title. The vellum is soiled. Creasing to the fore edge of the front end papers. Two of the illustrations plates xiv and xv - have been cancelled and replacement images are pasted over. These are contemporary with the book - the two images beneath seem to have been transposed when printing and the pasted images correct that. (Book ref. 007042)

Browning and staining to the title pages. Bound in full leather with gilt decoration, boards a little warped. Front free end paper seems to have been glued back in at some point. (Book ref. 007041)

Ink presentation inscription to one of the front free end papers - For Hatty Elliot whose love of truth, sound judgement and good heart, render this attempt to do justice to the memory of Lord Russell not an unfit present from his descendant and her attached friend, Bedford, Woburn Abbey Octr 2d 1852. One ink correction and two brief notes. Some light browning and occasional spots and soiling. Introduction has the initials JM for John Martin the Librarian of the Duke of Bedford.
