Malltraeth, Anglesey LETTER from Hugh Price, 24th April 1789, about corn and coal for the poor.
1789. 1p., 25 lines in a clear hand. Tipped onto album leaf at extreme left edge. Appears to be to an agent or banker who looked after Lord Uxbridge's financial affairs, and possibly Price was Uxbridge's Steward. Says he is recovering from the gout 'the swelling much abated', and the Malltraeth Commissioners will soon ask him for the 815 which 'they demanded of Lord Uxbridge towards embanking and draining the Marsh', but he has only 600 left 'haveing lately paid the Captn. of the Mona one hundred and fifty pounds by Lord Uxbridge's Order.' Mentions the value of the corn distributed to the poor, and a cargo of coals for the poor, the cost to be divided between Lord Boston and Lord Uxbridge. 'I wish to know whether his Lordship means to give any more to the Poor this year'. Uxbridge became Lord Lieutenant of Anglesey in 1782. In 1784 he was created Earl of Uxbridge.
