A half leather binding with a five ribbed spine in a poor state and the two top cover corners worn through. The front cover is just about holding on. The body of the book is very tight. The endpapers and page edges are marbled. The frontspiece portrait engraving and it's tissue guard has some foxing . The rest of the book is very crisp and clean . The book begins with forty five pages containg with a list of illustrations, followed by a preface, a 28 page life of Dante, a four and a half page "Chronological view of the age of Dante ". pages 1-357 are the illustrated text translation with 100 in-text illustrations by John Flaxman.
