London: Kegan Paul Trench Trubner, 1885 first edition iv and 118 pages consisting of Gordon's titlepage 'Events at Kartoum from 5 Nov to 14 Dec 1884, his covering note to the Chief of Staff Soudan Expeditionary Force and the pages of the diary paginated 331 to 446 which were originally written on telegraph forms. Folio. Publisher's black cloth; the spine in particular is worn and shabby; the contents are in good order. Limited to 500 copies. The jounrnal ends 'Mark this, if Expeditionary Force...does not come in 10 days, the town may fall, and I have done my best for the honour of our country. Goodbye.'
