Moral tale of boy working in coal mine in North East England who loses hiis father and brother in a coalmining accident. Interesting anti-union references. B&w illustrations. Externally, cover faded in places due to apparent effects of water. Inside, neat mend with professional booktape to a couple of hinges; ink name and numbers (apparently private owner's cross-reference system) to ttle page; red from outer cover has permeated pastedowns at both front and rear; surface of 1st pastedown which has list of series titles has been damaged by removal of bookplate; remains of price list on blank reverse to frontispiece.
