There is little biographical information about this man, who was probably a soldier and certainly an accomplished artist, practising in caricature, military illustration, portraiture, and landscape ... he was principally occupied in illustrating books, mainly on military themes. The most notable are The Martial Achievements of Great Britain and her Allies (1815), for which he designed fifty-two plates, The Wars of Wellington by William Combe (1819), and his own Life of a Soldier (1823). During this time he also drew theatrical portraits or ‘characters’. He described himself in 1819 as ‘portrait and military painter’ (George, Catalogue, 9.civ). When the demand for military prints declined in the 1820s Heath reverted to caricatures, published either as individual prints or as sets, and soon established himself in a leading position ...’ US$624 (Book ref. 184002) £400.00

Henry, Revd. Matthew; Various The Holy Bible Containing the Old and New Testaments Embellished with Elegant Engravings and Illustrated Notes By the Revd. Matthew Henry (in Two Volumes complete)
London: Thomas Cornish & Co., 1813. Illustrated by Various. Reprint. Black Suede. Very Good/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall Z A two volume work - no date but the Old Testament frontispiece is dated 1812 and the New Testament frontispiece dated 1813. Circa 1813. Numerous full page copper engravings illustrate the text. Volume one is Genesis to the end of the Psalms and volume two is Proverbs through to Revelation, but it also includes the Apocrypha. This two volume set has been re-bound in the twentieth century in an unusual black suede leather. This suede has been gilt-embossed with the titles 'Family Bible' to each spine and a cross to the front boards. There are five raised bands to each spine. Both volumes remain firmly bound. Marbled endpapers have been used. Volume one has a neat contemporary or near contemporary ink inscription to the final blank (now pasted to the rear endpaper) : Mrs Budd, 4 Bishops Terrace, Walcot Square, Kensington Road, London in a neat hand. Neat strips of red material have been inserted by the binder support the inner hinges of each volume - presumably because of their weight and bulk. The Frontispiece margins of the Old Testament (a charming engraving of Adam and Eve) have been repaired neatly as has a 9cm tear from the margin. There are general stains to the margins of the title page and the frontispiece. Perhaps less cleverly (or with a view to strengthening it) the frontispiece has been pasted on to the reverese of the front endpaper. The title page and frontispiece/front endpaper have pulled slightly away from the contents page leaving an open tear of around 7mm in length. Some of the corners of the pages to both volumes have been turned - others rounded. There is some scattered foxing and some soiling - mostly of the finger type and a general toning to the paper commensurate with age. In volume two - the first two leaves have again pulled away from the remaining text with more noticable consequences - several short tears at the margin and some revealed webbing. There is also splitting at the rear inner hinge with the mull revealed. The boards remain firmly attached (though this is probably due at least in part to the strengthening cloth/tape used on the inner hinges) and the bulk of the textblock tight - to both volumes. There is rubbing to the suede of the front board and spine of volume one. An attractive two volume Bible - somewhat curiously bound, but in such a way that it captures the simplicity of this early nineteenth century edition. (Book ref. 226083) £65.00
