The Lady's Manual of Homeopathic Treatment in the Various Derangements Incident to Her Sex by E H Ruddock, published by the Homeopathic Publishing Company, London 1875. The 6th edition, revised, enlarged and re-written. In stiff cloth-covered boards size 19 by 12 cm. Front board has a gold-stamped design and title. 264 pages plus a 6-page introduction and 8 pages of publisher's advertising. Topics that are covered include pregnancy, menstruation, reproduction, childbirth and breast-feeding, and the style is that of a factual text, though some of the attitudes of the period are obvious. Also includes two hand-written inserts; a series of instructions for a pregnant woman and a short note dated 1926 with treatment and advice for period problems. Owner's signature in ink dated 1877 to front endpaper. Some scuffing to spine of book and a one-inch tear to the side of the spine, but binding and contents otherwise Good condition. Image available. In the early nineteenth century, Samuel Hahnemann’s formulation of the Empirical therapeutic doctrine, which he called homeopathy. It flourished especially in the United States.
