Tudor Minstrel's breathtakingvictory in the 1947 Two Thousand Guineas opens the first chapter, and goes on to recall The Greats such as Sea Bird II, Ribot, Brigadier Gerard and, more recently, Shergar and Dancing Brave. The titles of some of the chapters 'Further Food For The Optimist', 'The Dreaded Timeform Squiggle', 'Tales Of The Turf' - offer more clues to the wide range of topics dealt with in its 368 pages. Pictorially too, 'Favourite Racehorses' is unique, containing nearly 400 photographs which provide a splendidly vivid record of the highlights of fifty years of racing, including work by Ed Byrne, John Crofts, Alec Russell andGeorge Selwyn.
