Decorative border. 46 lines of text. Aged and stained, but clear and complete. A rare piece of ephemera, relating to the launch of an extremely popular scent. '1827' (the year of the perfume's launch) in manuscript at head of page, and this date consistent with the imprimatur. Pages are in bright clean condition, many B/w photographs plus very informative detailed text. Volume one is fifth edition 1941 volume two is sixth edition 1941 and volume three is sixth edition 1942. Volume 2 and 3 have thin strip of fabric tape on inner hinges with stiching, not sure if this is original or a later repair, if it is arepair it has been done professionaly and very neatly, books are very sound. Illustrated with a few coloured plates containing 32 coloured figures and 161 woodcuts supporting the plate. Bound in original cloth with red and black decorative front board and spine - a little rubbed and slight toning to the spine strip. Some scattered soiling to the rear board and light bumps to the head and tail of the spine and to one board corner. Foxing to the fore edges and to several pages at the front and rear of the book ( mainly the contents and index). tear of 4 cm to the lower margin of pp 81, no loss. The book remains firm and tight with only the odd other page having light scattered foxing - the rest being clean. A good plus copy. (Book ref. 001326) £7.00
