In good, tight but definetly used condition. Original publisher's cloth. With a gilt embosssed title to the spine (gilt now faint) and a gilt embossed vignette of a galleon to the front board. Upper edges gilt - others rought-cut. Fourteen plates after William Hyde's art work in photogravure - each tissue-guarded. a further 19 page plates and text illustrations. Not an ex-library copy but not without its faults. ound in buckram cloth - sunned( and a little soiled) to the spine. A couple of tiny puncture marks to the cloth spine. A number of small stain/soil marks to the rear board. A stain mark to the corner of the hinge over lapping both the front paste-down and the fornt endpaper with some colour run ( from the red endpaper-red/pink in colour) to the reverse of the endpaper and to the hinge corners of the preliminary blank page,half-title page, frontispeice and title page - fainterwiht every page. A similar but considerably smaller stain at the rear of the book - essentially only affecting the rear endpaper and final page. A blind embossed stamp - small and neat ( not ink) with the puiblishers' compliments to the title page. A small light stain with tide-mark to the heads of some of the photogravure plates measuring around 3.5 cm x 1.2 cm. Scattered light foxing. A split along the rear inner hinge though rear board remains firmly attached. Not the most attractive cloth casing but firmly bound and the vast bulk of the textblock remains largely clean and in good order. (Book ref. 226976) £100.00
