Marks, H. A.: Diary of H. A. Marks Voyage to Japan and Return on M.V. "Citos" 26th March 1959 to 6th June 1959.
Sydney: H.A. Marks, 1959. A printed diary reproduced by some typing process. 121 pp. bound in a linen spine and marbled boards. 26 x 20.5 cm. This is a diary of a trip on a freighter with a total of 12 passengers from Sydney via Brisbane to the Philipines, Hong Kong and Japan, and return. Marks and his wife left the ship at Hong King to fly to Japan but rejoined it in Japan for the return trip. One of the passengers, Mr. Billy Graham was from Belfast, and there is an inscription to him from the author dated 2.5.63. This presumably is how this copy came to be here. Of the other passengers three were from Sydney, one from Brisbane, one from Adelaide and the rest from Melbourne. A comprehensive account of the journey with interesting observations on places visited, the ship and its commercial activity, etc. At this distance we can't research Mr Marks and his wife, but it should be possible in Australia. We assume he probably sent a copy to other passengers but we can't see there being more than about 10 or 12 copies in all. There is an old crease to the rear board but otherwise in very good condition. (Book ref. 13411) £45.00
